I am so excited to be back with this fun event for the fourth time! I especially love the Fall Pop-Up Shops because it is a chance to pick up gifts for loved ones and hostesses just before the holiday season hits.To shop the goods early, grab your tickets to the “First Look” Event on November 21. Enjoy light bites and refreshments as well as a live DJ. Bring your husbands, wives, friends, and family for this fun night out. 100% of ticket proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. If you can’t make it to the “First Look” Event, don’t fret! You can still shop everything on November 22 and 23 and give back to AFSP because 20% of sale proceeds go towards this fantastic cause. What to look forward to: curated, handmade, artisan goods sourced from France, Mexico, Morocco, Turkey, India, and (new this year!) Bhutan. From hand-beaded bags, to the famous Indian caftans and silk pajamas (back by popular demand!), you will have everything you need. Also, come with measurements and photos in hand so I can help you place art from the wonderful artists in France and Mexico I have met on my travels.

If I had to choose three words to describe Bhutan, they would have to be: special, magical and peaceful.  In fact, it might easily be my most favorite place I have traveled to date…and we all know that there has been a lot of competition.Bhutan only started allowing foreigners during the mid-70’s. They were extremely methodical about maintaining their unique culture and traditions and therefore took a very cautious approach to visitors. This is what makes this country so special. With the beautiful sites and incredible experiences, you would think that Bhutan would be completely overrun by tourism, but it’s not. The local government has come up with a “low volume, high quality” tourism strategy that comes at the cost of $250/day per person, which I would gladly pay again and again to return to this beautiful country.Due to the few tourists who visit, the culture has been completely preserved, giving you a taste of true authenticity. The traditional culture, which revolves mainly around Buddhism, is largely intact and contributes to a very peaceful side of Bhutan. From the scenic views, to the fresh food, to the distinct spirituality, I can’t get over how much this trip meant to me.

AKD Winter Coat Picks

Since winter has apparently arrived already, I thought we could use a quick Amazon shopping spree (but who really needs an excuse, am I right?)

If you have not heard of the Orolay brand, they sell specifically on Amazon.  They are a fashion-forward brand that is inexpensive and warm. Music to my ears.

Here are a few ideas to get you started but please look on my Amazon Storefront to find more. They can take you from fall to winter and even have coats for kids too. Goodbye Moncler and Canada Goose…Hello Orolay.

AKD Book Club: October’s Book

Sequels of outstanding books rarely live up to the original. This is the exception.

If you loved Beartown (one of my favorites books of 2018), you are going to love this very smart sequel.  If you have not ready Beartown, that is a must-read before you pick up this book, as this book picks up where Beartown left off.

Backman is a master at telling compelling human stories through beautiful character development and intertwining stories. I think both of these books are essential on any bookshelf, so you can purchase each of them at the links below:
