A Day In the Life of aHigh-End Designer:

An Interview with Brightech

I wanted to thank my new friends at Brightech for this lovely feature of myself and Amy Kartheiser Design as a whole recently on their blog. I have added a few snippets here, but you can find the entire post below:

Have you ever looked at an image from a high-end design magazine and wondered how they’re able to do that? We do, on a consistent basis. We are wowed by how talented designers can take a concept, a few design principles, and make magic. For this week’s interview, we got in touch with Amy from Amy Kartheiser Design, named one of the Top Contemporary Designers in Chicago. What’s really special about Amy is that not only she is an incredible designer but she also has a business background and runs her company like a tight ship! She has a team of interior designers that are able to send you a full plan of your room without even stepping foot in your home.

Q: How many years have you been blogging?

We’re approaching our one-year anniversary of blogging!

Q: What is your favorite Interior Design project that you’ve ever done?

I completed a project in Winnetka, IL with a fun client who had a “more is more” personality — it made for a fun project! She was not afraid of anything that was proposed and would actually push back on us to find even more ways to add color and texture to each of the rooms, while still maintaining the feel she wanted in each space. It was a fun challenge that turned out beautifully.

Q: What does a day in the life of an interior decor blogger look like?

Well, a lot like the day in the life of an interior designer, who has lots of clients and is trying to fit everything in her days and writing her blog at night! It is certainly not always glamorous, but it is very fun. My head is always spinning with ideas, whether for projects or ways to run my business, etc. The blog is a great way for me to funnel some of those ideas.

Q: What is the hardest thing about interior design?

For me is that I cannot turn it off! I walk into every room and want to rearrange furniture, reupholster chairs, add wallpaper. Design is on my brain 24/7. And, owning your own business on top of that – don’t even get me started! It’s a ’round the clock commitment.

Q: If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?

Nothing. I am a true believer that all of our experiences lead us to where we are today. I started out in the business world before I went into the design, and those years were most impactful on how I run my business and how I treat my clients. I feel I’m a business owner first and a designer second, so I am thankful for the path I have been on.
