STEP INSIDE A SERENE HAMPTONS RETREAT

An expansive property offers a retreat from urban living — and plenty of room for friends and family to join in on the beauty found inside and out.

When a Manhattan-based family decided to escape the city during the height of Covid, they found much more than a temporary oasis. An in-construction home with plenty of custom design opportunity proved to be the right fit, and they soon brought in Amy + her team to put their design stamp on the property.

Custom furnishings became a happy project necessity. AKD worked around Covid supply chain delays by enlisting the help of a Chicago-based custom-furniture maker, whose owner made three trips East himself to deliver his beautiful creations, including a massive custom dining table.

Bringing the tranquil feel of the outdoors into the interiors was a priority for AKD and the homeowners. Natural woods, like the backing on a metal-based swivel chair from A. Rudin, subtly reflect and celebrate the inspiring views from the home’s abundant windows.

The work-from-home lifestyle required AKD to rethink the home’s seven bedrooms as more than just sleeping spaces. By incorporating sleek work areas into many of the bedrooms, AKD created additional functionality and necessary separation, while prioritizing style and a sense of calm.

A vacation home isn’t complete without a space to put your feet up and relax, and the basement’s theater room offers the perfect, simple spot for the family to gather to watch movies on rainy days.

A majestic bathroom, which Amy credits as the “brainchild of the builder,” was further enhanced by the design team’s interior selections and styling. The sauna, double-headed steam shower, and soaking tub live on the home’s lower level, adjacent to a workout space, music room, and home theater, creating the ultimate basement oasis.
